Maths

In Grade 6, Mathematics turns outward toward the practical world. Through the study of percentages, business math, and simple interest, students learn to work confidently with money, pricing, and everyday financial situations.

This block strengthens clarity, accuracy, and independent thinking, helping students see mathematics as a reliable tool for real life.

Block 1: Percentages & Business Math

Topics Include:

​

  • ​Meaning of percent (“per hundred”)

  • Converting fractions ↔ decimals ↔ percentages

  • Finding a percentage of a number

  • Increase and decrease by percent

  • Understanding business aspects and expenses (materials, labor, transport, packaging)

  • Cost price and selling price

  • Profit and loss

  • Profit % and loss %

  • Discount and marked price

  • Practical applications through real-life word problems

Block 2: Simple Interest & Statistics

Topics Include:

  • ​Simple interest formula (Principal, Rate, Time)

  • Understanding borrowing and lending

  • Calculating total amount and interest earned

  • Word problems integrating Business Math and Simple Interest

  • Introduction to data collection

  • Mean, median, mode

  • Reading and drawing bar graphs

  • Line graphs

  • Pie charts

  • Introduction to Venn diagrams

Physics

In Grade 6, Physics is introduced through direct observation and experiment. Students explore fundamental phenomena such as heat, light, magnetism, acoustics and static electricity, building understanding from experience rather than abstraction.

Through careful experimentation and description, students develop clear thinking, attentiveness, and respect for natural law.

Block 1: Sound, Light & Heat

  • Sound as vibration

  • Transmission of sound through solids, liquids, and air

  • Pitch and frequency

  • Intensity and resonance

  • Reflection of sound (echo)​

  • Reflection in plane mirrors

  • Image formation

Block 2: Magnetism and Static Electricity

  • Attraction and repulsion of charged bodies

  • Simple electrostatic experiments

  • Distinguishing magnetism and electricity

3 week Block

Geometry
(Precision and Focused work)

In Grade 6, students meet Geometry with greater precision and logical clarity. Using instruments, they construct forms with accuracy, exploring relationships between lines, angles, circles, and polygons.

Through careful constructions and geometric reasoning, students develop exactness, perseverance, and clear mathematical thinking.

  • Precision with compass and straightedge

  • Constructing and measuring angles

  • Perpendicular and angle bisectors

  • Triangles and their properties

  • Discovering geometric relationships

  • Quadrilaterals and symmetry

  • Parallel lines and proportional spacing

  • Inscribed and circumscribed figures

  • Transformations through reflection and rotation

Astronomy
(Geocentric, observation based approach)

In Grade 6, students lift their gaze to the wider cosmos and explore humanity’s relationship with the heavens. Through observation of the sun, moon, stars, and planetary movements, they develop orientation in space and time.

Astronomy at this stage nurtures perspective, wonder, and a growing capacity for objective thinking grounded in careful observation.

Topics Include:

  • Observing the apparent movement of the Sun

  • Sunrise and sunset points through the year

  • The changing length of day and night

  • Phases of the Moon

  • The Moon’s path across the sky

  • The zodiac as a star background

  • Seasonal constellations

  • The planets as wandering stars

  • The geocentric picture of the heavens

  • Human orientation in space and direction
